Black-and-white photographs of people and places, made slowly, between Dakar and the rest of the world.
Arranged by subject rather than by country. A seamstress in La Paz belongs beside a fisherman in Dakar; a memorial in Washington beside a ruined prison in Brazil. The work is about what people do, not where they happen to be standing.
About
Wagane Diouf lives and works in Dakar, Senegal. He photographs mostly on black-and-white film, on journeys through West Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean and beyond.
His pictures look for what lasts in a place: the dignity of the people who keep it alive, the marks history leaves on walls and faces, and the light that falls on both. He works without a set assignment, returning to the same streets until they stop performing for the camera.
Prints are made in small editions, from the original negatives. For prints, exhibitions and publication, please get in touch.
